As a teenager growing up in the Washington DC area, I remember my dad telling me on numerous occasions, “In making decisions, don’t follow the crowd. The crowd usually gets it wrong.” My dad was very intentional in trying to guide me along the path of wisdom. He knew the power of peer pressure and did his best to keep me out of its clutches.
The apostle Paul issued great advice to the church in Corinth. Corinth was an international city and strategic crossroads for trade. But it was filled with sin, especially idol worship and sexual immorality. Trouble loomed around every corner for anyone who chose mere human wisdom over God’s wisdom.
Families in America are under attack. Many are literally disintegrating. Divorce, teenage pregnancy, teen suicide, children in foster homes — it’s not a pretty scene. But is it supposed to be this way? Does your marriage have to be a casualty? Do your kids have to be victims? No! Seek God’s wisdom and live by it. It works.
