Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19 (NIV)

The military, like other large organizations, can sometimes leave individuals feeling small and insignificant. Occasionally, unique requests come along for a specific individual. In the military, these are called “by name” or “nominative” requests. To be specially requested for an assignment can feel most gratifying and certainly confidence-building.

From the beginning, the Lord has been assigning jobs through the “by name” process. God created all beasts of the field and birds of the air, but he turned to Adam to name them. That’s trust!

Have you ever stopped to consider that the Lord has assigned you to an important leadership role and delegated great authority to you to get the job done?

Take parenting. We have enormous responsibility and no formal training. The assignment begins for the mom during pregnancy and kicks into high gear when the child is born.

Don’t doubt your assignment to lead. Our Commander knows what He’s doing!
