Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” Genesis 18:23 (NIV)

Have you ever worked for a leader who seemed unwilling to take risks to help subordinates? It’s tough to respect a leader like that, isn’t it?

Conversely, when you know that your leader will go to bat for you in tough situations, doesn’t that motivate you to follow that person even more?

Abraham was such a leader. After learning that God was planning to destroy the wicked city of Sodom, Abraham dared to appeal to God on behalf of the righteous people in that city. God heard Abraham’s appeal and delayed the destruction of Sodom until a righteous man named Lot and his family could escape.

What about you as a leader? Are you willing to intercede on behalf of your subordinates? In a huge organization like the US military, warriors sometimes get caught up in situations beyond their control. Mistakes in the system occur that can hurt warriors, and even their families.

Interceding for others takes time and effort, and can even be risky. Maybe it’s prayer. Maybe it means taking action.

Are you willing?
