Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. Psalm 69:1 (NIV)

Do you agree? The better you know a person, the more honest and frank your conversation can be.

Our relationship with God works that way, too. Many Christians pray to God in formal language, often very measured and guarded as well.

Is this what Scripture teaches? Yes, you will read some formal appeals to the Lord, but you find many more instances where desperate people cry out to God- ‘Help!’

David, warrior and king, is on the verge of going under. Read Psalm 69. David is crying out to God and tell Him about his plight. There is even some whining mixed in.

Interestingly, in this Psalm and in many others David wrote, there is no hint that David regrets his openness and transparency with God. Why? He has a relationship with the Lord.

David’s life is characterized by constant communion with God- as a shepherd, as a musician, and as king.

God described David as a “man after his own heart.”

Question: is there any reason you can’t also be a person after God’s own heart?
