“For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed. Acts 13:36 (NIV)
God has given you and me one life to live. How will we live it?
According to Acts 13:36 and other verses as well, David achieved God’s purpose for his life. David had been a shepherd, warrior, poet, musician, husband, father and king.
Did David accomplish God’s purpose through a particular role, or by doing all of the above?
Let me suggest that the answer doesn’t lie in a specific role or time period, but rather hinges on the kind of relationship David had with the Lord. David was a worshipper of God and wanted to be in God’s presence- always.
The 23rd Psalm describes how David felt:
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6 (NIV)
More than money, title, or fame, David wanted to worship God and remain in His presence forever.
Are you fulfilling God’s purpose for your life?
