Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NIV)
The “sport” of gambling is taking our nation by storm, and many military folks are joining in the action. Playing the lottery is easy. People can just go to one of the many quick-stop markets that sell tickets.
But the real up and coming rave lies in betting on sports. It starts with small amounts just for “fun”. It grows into a habit…and then into a destructive obsession.
Bottom line: if you want to head toward a life of ruin, it has never been easier. All you need is a smartphone.
What’s behind this surge in gambling? Read the verse above. It’s about the love of money. The Bible is loaded with warnings for those who put their love and trust in riches.
Don’t we know what will happen to many who gamble? A tiny fraction will “win.” The rest will experience financial loss ranging from less disposable income to bankruptcy and ruin.
What to do? Don’t gamble. Be thankful for what God has provided, continue to work hard, and manage your wealth responsibly.
