Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” John 4:39 (NIV)
Success in God’s eyes is not limited to a few with superior education, rank, financial wealth, or even reputation. It’s more about believing God and obeying His Word.
As this account tells us (read verses 1-42), the woman had a below average resume: five previous husbands, and the man she was presently living with was not her husband. But as the verse says, her confession to fellow Samaritans inspired them to meet Jesus and choose to believe in Him. The Samaritan woman trusted Jesus and obeyed to the extent of her limited knowledge. That’s success.
In a similar way, military leaders who are successful are not always the ones with below-the-zone promotions, high scores on inspections, or great performances at one of the military’s combat training centers. They are not always the ones that senior officers talk about.
Maybe it’s time to shift your emphasis. Trust and obey the Lord. Love and serve your warriors. If you do this, you will be a successful leader.
