“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” John 6:9 (NIV)
In military operations a mass casualty event is one where the medical requirements exceed present medical capabilities. It’s a leader’s worst nightmare. Prioritizing medical assets to do the most good for the most people is incredibly hard. Some will die due to the leader’s decisions regarding which warriors should be treated.
But there is no other sane choice. Doctors, nurses and medical staff spring into action. Fortunately, their efforts often bring more positive results than initially expected. Don’t forget God’s intervention.
This passage in John 6 describes the scene where Jesus miraculously feeds five thousand men plus family members. He started with a mere five barely loaves and two small fish. God is like that. Nothing is impossible for Him.
This young man was not a formal leader, but his leadership helped to achieve success.
So, what can leaders learn here? Simply this: do the best you can with what you have, and leave the rest in God’s hands. That’s success.
