The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” Judges 6:14 (NIV)
Becoming a leader is not always our idea. But committing to lead is always our choice.
Take the situation with Gideon. The Israelites were paying their dues for the evil they had done. God used the Midianites, a fierce people, to terrorize the Israelites at every turn. The outlook was dismal.
The Lord decided it was time to rescue Israel, and to do so he called a man named Gideon. He sent an angel to let Gideon know that he had been chosen to save Israel from the hands of the Midianites.
Gideon was hardly excited by the angel’s announcement and immediately began making excuses and insisting that they had selected the wrong guy. However, his efforts fell short. God convinced Gideon that he was the right man for the job and that the Lord had his back. History records that Gideon became a great leader.
