“But when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” John 21:18b-19 (NIV)
Picture yourself on a beach across from Jesus. He is about to reveal His path for your life. What will He say?
This was Peter’s situation. Reeling from his recent failures, Peter wondered what his own future might hold.
“Peter, do you love me?” Jesus asked him three times. He follows Peter’s answers by telling him to “Feed my sheep.”
Jesus wants Peter to lead, but the path will take Peter to where he won’t want to go- death by crucifixion. Jesus never softened the news. He punctuates his conversation with the words, “Follow me!”
As God’s servant leader, your mission is to lead others from where they are to where they need to go.
Before you can lead others, God desires to take you from where you are to where you need to be.
Are you willing?
