But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. – Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

In today’s culture, politics, and religion continue to be lightning rods for heated discussion among family members. This should come as no surprise. In Scripture, Jesus warns us about the hatred that will come to those who express faith in Him.

But Jesus never told us to stay silent about matters of faith. Both the Old and New Testaments emphasize the importance telling others about out the Lord. Why? Because our eternal destination hinges upon the God we choose to serve.

The words in this verse were spoken by Joshua, the great spiritual leader over Israel. Joshua challenged his people to make up their minds. Half-hearted commitment wouldn’t cut it.
