“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 (NIV)
Military leaders often ask questions about how to live out their Christian faith within the Profession of Arms.
A great place to start is by simply following the wisdom Jesus shares in Mark 12. When asked by a religious leader about the most important commandment in the Law, Jesus gave a clear and succinct two-part answer: love God in every way you can and love others as much as you love yourself.
This sounds simple, but it’s certainly not easy. The starting point is learning to love God. As you read God’s Word, meditate on who He is and what He has done for you. Give careful thought to your life and all that our gracious Father has done for you. Then go and do likewise for your fellow human beings.
