Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6 (NIV)
Since the time Adam and Eve sinned against God, the prideful nature in man gravitates toward wanting to be independent. We don’t need anyone else. We don’t want handouts. We can earn everything we get in life.
Military leaders often manifest this pride. We may work with our organization to accomplish missions, but when it comes to our personal lives, we don’t need help.
What does God think about this? This passage clearly communicates that right standing with God doesn’t hinge on what we do. Relationship starts with believing and trusting God.
Ten years earlier, God had promised that Abram would become a great nation. But now at 85, no apparent heir was in sight and Abram’s wife was still childless. God then pronounced to Abram the seemingly impossible- that Sarai would have a child. Rather than doubt God, Abraham believed the Lord.
Result? Abram’s belief and trust in the Creator of the Universe pleased God. God blessed Abram and Sarai with Isaac, and many children after that.
Lesson: Our Heavenly Commander can help us with anything! But it only comes as we have faith and trust in Him. Do you trust Him?
