This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV)
It is a well-known fact that rising to senior leadership positions within the military is a prestigious accomplishment.
This kind of success brings much responsibility, but also many accolades. It is easy to become enamored with self and begin to believe the hype about what a great leader you are. We’ve all seen the results- arrogance, boasting, and even a degree of infallibility.
God does not promote people to high leadership positions to stroke their egos. He exalts people for the purpose of accomplishing his purposes. Not to boast.
God doesn’t need our wisdom, strength, or wealth. He desires that we know and understand Him. And that we know that God exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness.
If you must boast, boast that you know God and the things that delight Him.
