This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV)
Military leaders of all ranks possess knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. This helps to earn credibility and trust with subordinates.
God expects leaders to be qualified, but He places an even higher priority on them to know Him, and to exercise kindness, justice, and righteousness.
Think about your own experience with leaders. When they speak and act arrogantly, does that work with followers? Chances are that warriors quickly loose respect.
Rarely will another human confront you and let you know you are acting in prideful ways. Fortunately, God will. He will speak to you as you read His Word and as you pray.
Seek to understand and know your Heavenly Commander. Not only will you please Him, but you will become a better leader.
