And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. Luke 2:40 (NIV)
The impact of parenthood is vastly underrated these days, especially as it relates to the legacy passed to children. Parents have the capacity to impact children with life skills, values, and faith.
The “child” in this verse is Jesus. Though Jesus was the Son of God, He came into this world and was reared by Mary and Joseph. Under their loving care, Jesus grew physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
His parents helped Jesus learn to walk and talk. They also taught Him right from wrong.
As a parent, part of loving your children is teaching them right from wrong and disciplining them when necessary. Have you ever considered that healthy discipline of your children is preparing them to receive discipline from their Heavenly Father – God?
Scripture tells us that God disciplines those whom He loves (Hebrews 12:6). Preparing your children to accept this is a powerful legacy and worthy of your time and effort.
Let’s prepare our children to obey God.
