What do you do after a failure? A smart approach would be to ask God what you should do next. David called together his spiritual leaders and reminded them that collectively they failed to consult the Lord properly the first time.
“And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab. He said to them, ‘You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it. For because you did not do it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order’” (1 Chronicles 15:11-13, NKJV).
The teaching point from this strange incident is straightforward: don’t wait till after a failure to seek God’s counsel; start with it! Whatever you are facing, God can show you the way to do it so you will grow and be in His blessing. Ask Him in prayer; consult His Word; seek out those He’s placed in leadership. He will help you to do it His way.
