City walls in ancient times were costly and time-consuming to build, but they were well worth the effort and expense.
Why? They were the city’s main line of defense against any and all enemies. Well-built, strong walls defended by courageous, skilled warriors could protect the people and goods inside against a formidable enemy.
Likewise, as you work on and develop more self-control, you are securing walls of protection around your marriage. Deployed or together, good times, bad times, sickness, health, at all times in every way: control the only person you can—yourself.
“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control” (Proverbs 25:28, NKJV).
