“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 (NIV)

I (Scott) remember like it was yesterday. I reported to an Infantry battalion in Viet Nam and reported to my first platoon. I met them in the field. As a 1st Lieutenant, this was my first leadership position in combat.

Did I rush in and take charge? I don’t think so. I was fortunate to have an experienced platoon sergeant and four battle-tested squad leaders. I asked them to show me the ropes. I couldn’t have made it without their help.

Notice our Scripture verse. Jesus called Peter and John to do one thing- follow Him. If they agreed, Jesus would make them fishers of men.

Over-confidence is dangerous for leaders, but lacking confidence isn’t good either.

If Jesus has placed you into leadership, the top priority is simply to commit yourself to follow Him. If you will remain committed, Jesus will provide the necessary gifting and abilities to get the job done. He will make you into the leader He has destined you to become.

Don’t waste time doubting yourself. Follow Jesus.
