Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 2 Samuel 12:9 (NIV)
God seeks leaders who believe and follow truth. He knows all mortals have clay feet, but His standards don’t waver for anyone.
Military leaders should take heed—always. David was both a military leader and king. While his army was out at war, he committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of one of his Israelite soldiers. To complicate matters, he murdered her husband to cover his crime.
God couldn’t let this go. He sent Nathan the prophet to confront David. Hearing the truth, David listened and repented.
Today, news headlines frequently report accounts of leaders biting the dust—business executives, coaches, politicians, military officers just to name a few.
Why? Because they make bad decisions and attempt to hide the truth.
Are you thinking this can’t happen to you? That’s not a wise way to think—because it can.
Be smart and be intentional. Follow God and live by the truth.
