Obedience can be critical in life. If any segment of our population understands this, it is the military. Disobedience can cause failure, and even death. In spiritual matters, obedience is even more important. Why? Because it impacts both this life and the next. It definitely affects marriage and family. Admittedly, obedience can be hard — very hard.
“And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12–13, NKJV).
It helps to have the right attitude. These words from God came at a time when the people of Israel were struggling. They grumbled, complained, and often blew off God’s commands. God not only reminded them what they needed to do. He told them it was for their own good. How are you doing with following God’s ways in your own marriage and family? Remember — God’s commands are for your good.
