Stay Connected

During one deployment, most of the soldiers had limited access to morale phones. However, one leader, a committed Christian and family man, had frequent access to a morale phone line, yet didn’t use it. When asked how long it had been since he had spoken to his family, he answered, “It’s been about four weeks. I’ve been really busy.” What a tragedy! He had the perfect opportunity to stay meaningfully connected with his wife and children, but he wasted it!

“So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us” (1 Thessalonians 2:8, NKJV).

The apostle Paul, on the other hand, made every effort to stay connected with those who were important to him when he was away. He didn’t want to grow distant emotionally or spiritually from those he cared about. So he wrote letters, sent gifts, and prayed for the churches. He asked people who were traveling to places he couldn’t go to deliver personal messages. Although he didn’t have a phone or the Internet, he used every means available to communicate his love and affection for his beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.

Stay connected with your friends and family. They love you and appreciate your efforts to share your life with them. They’ll feel closer to you, and you’ll feel better. And when it’s time to return home, the transition may be easier.
