Daily we are bombarded with offers to lessen stress in our lives: new cars, great foods, laborsaving devices, and magical medications. All claim in some way that they will remove stress from the hectic grind of our busy schedules. But have you noticed that stress levels in society continue to rise, not fall? In many cases these offers not only don’t lower stress, but actually raise it? Hoping to eliminate stress from life is a pipe dream. Jesus would agree.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NKJV).
In this verse He lays out two truths related to stress. First, He says as long as we live in this world, we will have troubles. It’s a given. Second, He doesn’t promise to remove all stress. But He tells us to take heart. He has overcome the world. Though we will always have stressors, Jesus will be there to support us. Real peace is not the absence of stress, but rather the presence of God in your life. Don’t face your stress alone. Let God help.
