Do you have someone who is willing to stand beside you during tough times? Are you willing to stand by others during tough times?

David’s journey from shepherd to king wasn’t easy. Betrayed, persecuted, and exiled, David must have felt painfully isolated at times. Yet he wasn’t without supporters. As the day drew near for David to assume the throne, faithful companions stood beside him.

“And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, ‘If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if to betray me to my enemies, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look and bring judgment.’ Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the captains, and he said: ‘We are yours, O David; we are on your side, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers! For your God helps you.’ So David received them, and made them captains of the troop” (1 Chronicles 12:17-18, NKJV).

Amasai, moved by God’s Spirit, brought an encouraging message: “We are on your side, O son of Jesse!” What a blessing to know someone is on your side—praying for you, fighting alongside you, watching out for your interests, and keeping you accountable before God.

God calls us to express such love and concern for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. We weren’t meant to face life’s battles alone. We’re stronger when we unite our hearts with other Christians. Ask the Lord to help you develop and nurture godly friendships.
