Spiritual warfare is real. Satan is real. He wants to destroy you. Our archenemy can defeat us if we don’t understand his strategy and tactics. His oldest tactic appears in these verses. Satan, disguised as a serpent, is talking to Eve. He is tempting her to disobey God’s command found in Genesis 2:16,17 — “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Notice the devil’s strategy.
“‘You will not surely die,’ the serpent said to the woman. ‘For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil'” (Genesis 3:4,5, NKJV).
He tells two lies. First, he tells Eve she won’t die. Second, he tells Eve that if she eats the fruit she will become like God. What is Satan’s point? First, he is accusing God of being a liar. Second, he is tempting Eve to doubt God’s goodness and to believe God is withholding blessing from her and her husband. Don’t believe Satan. God is good. The devil is a liar.
