I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44)

Many soldiers read this command of the Lord and think it is impossible to accomplish as members of the Armed Forces. This isn’t the case at all. Being “holy” or “consecrated” simply means allowing yourself to be set apart to serve God.

Among the godliest personalities in the Bible are those who were soldiers. Joshua and David were outstanding military leaders in Old Testament times and were commended by the Lord for living righteous and holy lives. In the New Testament, selected military leaders again are cited as being godly followers.

One example is in Matthew 8 when Jesus commends a Roman centurion for his faith. In Acts 10, Luke describes the soldier Cornelius as being a devout and righteous man.  God has ordained all authority, including the military services. He is looking for men and women who will serve Him in this capacity.

In today’s Armed Forces, many men and women have made the decision to set themselves apart in service to God — and they are doing just that. It’s up to you to decide. You can do it! The Lord will help you.
