The Answer is Still “No”

A traffic light has not changed from red since 1987.

That’s right. In thirty years a traffic light in Dresden, Germany has never turned green or amber. It’s capable of doing so. Its green and amber lamps are operational. In fact, the lamps are replaced during annual maintenance. Despite the fact that they’re in perfect running order. But only the red light ever shines.

Because of a legal technicality, the light cannot turn green. Motorists who come to it have only one option after halting.  They can only turn right when the coast is clear. One article cautioned motorists who wish to go straight through the intersection. Saying that they “will almost definitely run out of fuel before they get a green light.”

Don’t keep expecting God to change His mind

City officials do not foresee the situation changing anytime soon.

This traffic light reminds me of God’s prohibitions in the Scripture. Most of the time we are like those motorists waiting in vain for the red light to turn green. We wait in vain for God to change His mind and “get with the times.”

10157637766_1cbe95887d_kBut God’s “red lights” will never turn green. What God declared to be wrong 3,000 years ago in the Ten Commandments will never be right. Things like murder, stealing, lying, adultery, sexual immorality, coveting what belongs to others, and worshiping other Gods. Oh, we may get in the habit of running God’s red lights. But there are surveillance cameras which record every transgression. God will recompense our selfish and godless living.

Friend, don’t keep approaching that intersection which will always give you a red light.  Don’t keep expecting God to change His mind. He will never say, “My commandments have grown outdated – now it’s OK to break them.
Learn to live within the boundaries He’s established for us. These are boundaries which keep us safe and within His favor and blessing.

The Scripture tells us,

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
” – Psalm 1:1-6, NKJV
