The Library and Archives of Canada recently acquired a book previously owned by Adolf Hitler.
The book, entitled Statistics, Media and Organizations of Jewry in the United States and Canada, “detailed the blueprint for a North American holocaust.” The 137-page report submitted to Hitler by linguist Heinz Kloss contained extensive statistics on the Jewish populations within Canada and the United States. With the help of a network of Nazi sympathizers across North America, Kloss was able to compile critical information for Hitler’s genocidal plans.
Standing Up
Fortunately, by the time Heinz Kloss submitted his report (in 1944), the Third Reich was fighting for its life. The Allies had finally stood up to Hitler and put a roadblock in his dreams of world conquest.
However, not until the death camps were liberated across Europe did the Allies realize the extent of the Nazis’ evil agenda. Not until the release of this report do we now realize the Nazis wanted to extend that agenda to America.
Therefore, the Holocaust was horrific and should never be forgotten. But we must also acknowledge that Hitler’s genocide would have been immensely worse had the armed forces of freedom-loving people not taken a stand against him.
World War II took the lives of 407,000 Americans. It was a terrible cost. But the sacrifices of those brave men probably saved tens of millions of more lives.
Certainly, evil is always rearing its ugly head somewhere in the world. It can be in the form of some tyrant or wicked ideology. Such tyrants will always interpret appeasement and forbearance as a weakness. And they will always use it to their own advantage—as Hitler did with Britain. The only thing tyrants will respect is a powerful nation with the will to use its military.
Support what’s Right
Unfortunately, too many politicians in our society are inclined to always seek the path of least resistance and choose the easiest answers to problems. The tyrants of this world count on such cowards to remove all interference to their plans of aggression. Tyrants thrive in a world where apathy and timidity rule. Therefore, we must never place cowards in command of our armies. We must choose leaders who are spiritually strong, morally straight, and courageous in heart.
We must also support the men and women of our armed forces. They are the ones who make tyrants tremble—not poets, journalists, university professors, or politicians. Soldiers are the teeth and the claws of any threats we make to tyrants.
And should our poor, trembling hearts shudder at the terrible cost of conflict? Just remember the horror that Britain’s appeasement of Hitler unleashed on the world. After the war, it was revealed that, back in 1938, Hitler’s generals were ready to oppose his aggression toward Czechoslovakia. But when Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain so quickly made concessions to Hitler, the generals backed off. For they saw that Hitler’s gamble was paying off. Hitler’s nightmare might have been contained in 1938, had the Allies not been so quick to cave to his will.
Remember, also, how much worse Hitler’s hell would have been if the Allies hadn’t finally stood up to him. The Holocaust would have reached America.
God has established the powers that rule and He has placed a sword in their hands to restrain and punish the evil of this world (Romans 13:1–7; 1 Peter 2:13–17). The armed forces of freedom-loving nations are essential to world peace–as long as evil seeks to do violence against its neighbors. Let us remember them in our prayers.
PRAYER:
Dear Father in heaven, please bless the men and women of our armed forces. Please keep them physically fit, spiritually strong, and morally straight. Please grant them success in their missions, protect them from all harm, and bring them all safely back into the arms of their families and loved ones.
O God, please deliver us from corrupt, self-serving, and cowardly politicians. Raise up men and women of faith and courage to replace them and to lead our nation on the path of righteousness. For righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Amen.
