Garland was in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1971, serving in Vietnam. Decades later, he joined the board of Purple Heart Homes in 2010 after having followed the growth and development since its inception in 2008.
From building a ramp for a veteran of World War II, to providing home ownership opportunities to younger veterans, Purple Heart Homes programs are designed out of necessity and fit the specific needs of the Veteran population.
