“Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.” (Philemon 7, NIV)
Military life can be tough. But everyone, even the most hardened warriors, are encouraged by acts of love. A hardened veteran missionary himself, Paul expressed this fact in a letter. Philemon’s love shown toward fellow believers brought joy and encouragement to Paul’s heart.
Despite wartime conditions, U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have demonstrated love to children in both countries. Their actions have brought joy and encouragement not only to the kids, but also to millions of Americans back home.
Showing love doesn’t require some special ability or high level of training. It boils down to a decision. You decide that you want to demonstrate love. It can be as simple as holding a door for someone or mowing the grass for a senior citizen. Or perhaps, you show God’s love simply by listening patiently to another’s person’s problems.
Love never fails. Don’t underestimate your ability to encourage many through your love shown to others. Try it!
