A minor league baseball player was deeply discouraged. He was the son of a major league star. But coaches were disappointed in the son’s performance and planned to cut him from the team. In his next game, the young player quickly ran up two strikes.

“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad” (Proverbs 12:25, NKJV).

But before another pitch was thrown, the umpire told the boy, “You remind me of your father. He held and swung the bat just like you. I can tell you’re gonna go far.” The game resumed and the young man knocked the next pitch out of the park. The umpire’s encouraging comment breathed new life into the young player and turned his career around. “Anxiety in the heart … causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” Give good words.
