Often couples have stories to tell about their early days of marriage. They almost didn’t make it. Truthfully, many difficulties were caused by a lack of knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Lacking knowledge about communication, finances, etc., bad decisions followed. But there is good news. Successful marriages can happen despite mistakes. No marriage is without them.
“But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit'” (Matthew 1:20, NKJV).
This passage describes a troubled young man named Joseph whose fiancée, Mary, had become pregnant — mysteriously. Understandably, Joseph was considering divorce. But God sent an angel to tell Joseph that the baby in Mary’s womb had been conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph married Mary and was a good stepfather to Jesus. Obviously, this situation itself is unique to Mary and Joseph. But there is a principle we can apply: God will guide you, whether you are already married or are searching for the right mate.
