What gives you your sense of identity?
Each of us proudly wears the title of our branch: Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Guardian. But there is another title much more valuable, earned at a greater price, and worn long after our military service comes to an end. That title is “Christian.”
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure,” (1 John 3:1-3, NKJV).
John tells us we are children of God, and that when we see God as He is, we will become like Him. As warriors, we may be skilled, courageous, and honorable, and it’s all right to take pride in our status.
But our true identity comes from who and what we are spiritually. As Christians, we derive our identity from God himself. Is it time for you to update your ID?
