SOMEONE’S SENDING YOU A PRANK CALL

On the evening of January 31, 2016 the manager of the local Moro Bay Burger King received a call from a man identifying himself with the Moro Bay, California Fire Department.  In a concerned and commanding tone, the caller explained that a dangerous gas leak was filling the Burger King restaurant with lethal doses of methane and immediate action was necessary.  He ordered the store manager to break all the windows in the Burger King’s lobby to allow the deadly fumes to escape.  Driven by a sense of panic, the manager shouted to the closing crew to break the windows.  When the windows proved hard to break, the manager heroically drove his car through the plate glass window.  The employees eventually broke them all and saved the restaurant from a deadly explosion.

However, when the manager phoned the Fire Department to proudly report that he and his crew had complied with their orders, he received some disturbing news.  No one from the Moro Bay Fire Department had made any such phone calls to the Burger King.  It was nothing more than a prank call by someone pretending to be a fire department official.  The shift manager had inflicted $35,000-worth of damage on his Burger King because he believed a lie.

The lies people believe mislead them to make the most tragic and self-destructive decisions.  Husbands and wives abandon their marital and parental responsibilities because they believe the lie that another lover will make them happier.  Discouraged people take their own lives because they believe the world would be better off without them.  Millions of Americans writhe in pain because they believe themselves to be unloved, unwanted, and worthless.

In reality, every human being is special-made by a loving Creator, who chose their gender, body configuration, skin color, eye color, hair color, size, personality, and mix of talents and attributes.  We hate ourselves while God loves us dearly.  We’re believing a lie!  We destroy our own lives because we believe the prank calls from the enemy of our souls sent to terrorize and discourage us.

If you’re distressed and excessively fearful, is it because you’re believing a lie?  Could be.   Why not believe the promises of God’s word instead?  “God works all things together for good for those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).  “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).  “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called the children of God” (1 John 3:1).  “The LORD appeared to us from afar, saying, Behold I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I have drawn you with chords of lovingkindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).  “I sought the LORD and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4).  “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5).  There are hundreds of other true and unfailing promises from the Scriptures that will inspire faith and fill the troubled heart with peace.  Feed you mind on these truths rather than listen to the lies of the devil.

PRAYER:  Dear Father in heaven, open my eyes to behold wonderful things in Your law.  Amen.
