“But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’” (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV)
You’ve heard the cliché some leaders use: “I just love to be with the troops!” You also know that the troops are not easily fooled. They figure out quickly whether or not a leader cares about them. Soldiers pay more attention to what leaders do than what they say. God is the same way — only He is never fooled. He knows our hearts. Playing games with God never works. He desires our love and obedience. Are you a leader with a good heart and the right kind of motivation? Or are you “blowing smoke?” Troops know. So does God.
Be honest with yourself. Do you have heart problems? Are you struggling in your love and obedience toward the Lord or even toward your soldiers? Why don’t you tell Him your struggles and ask for His help? In His mercy and grace, He will help you.
