Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. (Ephesians 6:7,8)
In the workplace, military or civilian, one of the most frequently asked questions sounds like this: “How do you like your boss?” Often subordinates will cite poor leadership as the reason they don’t work harder. This is not surprising. The leader in any environment is important. Organizations succeed or fail largely on the basis of leadership. In fact, survey data reports that job satisfaction for most people hinges not on money, but on one’s relationship with or opinion of the boss.
Interestingly, the Bible takes another view. Christians are to serve wholeheartedly whomever they work for. The competency, popularity, or effectiveness of the leader is not the issue. Why? Because God commands us to do our best regardless of our work situation. Ultimately, we are serving Him. He sees what we are doing and will reward us for our efforts.
Ask the Lord how you are doing toward supporting your boss. Brace yourself. God will answer your question.
