Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. (Jude 3)
Jude, the writer of this verse, warns Christians to contend for their faith. In later verses he explains that there are evil men who use religion solely for selfish motives. These men are godless, dangerous, and destined for destruction.
Times haven’t changed. As warriors, we contend for freedom and the things that are right. Numerous times in our nation’s history we’ve had to resort to force. Many of our patriots have paid the price for freedom with their blood.
In the spiritual realm, the battle for truth is not any easier. As Jude warns in this verse, Christians must contend for it. Contending involves struggle, and struggle is often hard. You may not become a martyr, but this doesn’t mean you won’t have to contend for the truth. A good starting place is in God’s Word. Read it, study it, meditate on it, and obey it. If you do, you will surely keep the faith entrusted to you.
