All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him. (Genesis 49:28)
God has designed us to need the blessing of others, especially from our parents. From the time we’re small until the day we die, we need to know that our parents love us and are pleased with us as their child. Jacob was near death, but before he passed he wanted to pass his blessing on to each of his sons. Our verse tells us that Jacob blessed his children in a fashion that was appropriate to each son.
Some of the most successful men and women we know have confided to us that they felt empty and unfulfilled because they had not received blessing from one or both parents. Ironically, in some cases their parents hadn’t realized that they had withheld this blessing from their son or daughter.
Why wait? Do your children have your blessing, and do they know they have it? If the answer is no, would you consider taking immediate steps to give this blessing? It is so important.
