Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering  produces perseverance; (Romans 5:3)

Perseverance is an essential quality for success in life. This is especially true for those serving in the profession of arms.  Select any area of life – work, sports, finances, health, parenting, etc. Rarely does success come without perseverance. Though we love to hear the great accomplishments of those who chose to persevere, developing the quality of perseverance doesn’t come without cost. So how do we get perseverance?

As the verse above tells us, often it comes through suffering. Military life brings suffering on many fronts. Warriors engaged in combat certainly experience suffering, especially those who are wounded. But warriors are not the only ones. Family members, especially those with loved ones who have been killed or wounded, live with untold pain. And then there is separation due to deployment. You get the point: there is plenty of suffering to go around.

Going through a time of personal suffering? Take heart. Suffering produces perseverance, and perseverance will help you succeed in life.
