“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” (Romans 8:35, NIV)
Military life can be hard — very hard. At times the sacrifices demanded of soldiers and family members can seem unbearable: long hours, harsh conditions, separation, loneliness, frequent moving, and even lifethreatening danger. The protracted nature of the War on Terrorism continues to test our military community to the limit. PTSD, divorce, and alcohol are only a few of the problems.
Increasingly, we are seeing the toll on the children of military families. Perhaps you’ve thought, “Where is God in all of this?” If you have, take heart in knowing that many others have felt the same way.
God has good news for you. The answer to the question the apostle Paul poses in this verse provides the bottom line assurance we all need. God hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s here. Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. NOTHING!
