When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. (Psalm 94:19)

The competitive climate of the military is a constant source of anxiety for many military members and families. The concerns are real. Job security, promotion opportunities, and retirement planning are only a few of the critical areas affected. The War on Terrorism has created additional sources of anxiety. Not only is there the stress of surviving combat, but there are the additional challenges of frequent deployments.

Military families must face the strains associated with preparing for deployment, the deployment itself, and the challenge of reintegration following deployment. This can create a great deal of stress for the entire family. Perhaps you are experiencing anxiety.

The Psalmist’s message is one of hope. When he felt anxious, God’s comfort brought joy to his soul. God’s Word brings perspective on life’s challenges because it helps us realize that the Lord is greater than any problem.

If God brought comfort to the Psalmist, He will do it for you. Take heart. Don’t let anxiety get the best of you. Let God’s comfort be a source of joy to your soul!
