Don’t Turn To Cheap Substitutes

Stress from trauma and crisis can warp our perspective and tempt good people to turn to wrong places for answers. The results can be disastrous. This verse refers to a time when the people of Israel foolishly turned from God and pursued the false gods of Canaan. In their deception, Israeli parents actually sacrificed their children to idols. How tragic!

“They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood” (Psalm 106:38, NKJV).

Today, too many members of the military community are turning to the wrong places for solutions to their problems. Drugs and alcohol are not the right answers for the pain of PTS, PTSD, or any other problems.

A few years ago a young women came to see me. She was pregnant out of wedlock. Abortion seemed attractive because the problem would just go away. But would it? We talked about other women who had gone this route and how much they regretted taking the life of an unborn child. We also looked at counsel from God’s Word.   She chose life for her child. Cheap substitutes don’t work.
