Faith in the Home

The apostle Paul is writing to encourage a young pastor named Timothy. Paul sees tremendous potential in this young man, and in particular references the sincere faith he sees in Timothy’s life. Paul also mentions two godly women who influenced Timothy’s spiritual development — his mother and grandmother. These ladies must have lived a godly life before him and probably spent considerable time teaching him about the things of God. Their efforts paid off handsomely.

I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also (2 Timothy 1:5, NKJV).

Timothy is commended several places in the New Testament for his faith and service to God. Genuine Christianity must include more than attendance at church, Sunday school, or attending a Christian concert. It needs to be lived out in the home.

Regardless of your situation — single, married, married with children, or a single parent — God will honor your efforts to honor Him in your home. And be confident of this: other family members will be impacted by the efforts you make.
