Prayer Changes the Odds

Approaching a battle with limited resources is foolish and deadly, so war planners do everything in their power to ensure the odds are in their favor. What happens when the odds are against you? Elisha faced that very circumstance with the army of Aram knocking on his door. Instead of worrying, he relied on his faith, knowing God’s resources always put the odds in the believer’s favor. Elisha’s simple prayer reveals we have a God who commands the most powerful army in the world. Let us therefore trust Him in all areas of our life, with prayer as the tool that connects us to His resources.

“And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:15-17, NKJV).
