For troops fighting in intensive combat, few things are sweeter than knowing that the commander is about to commit reinforcements that will ensure victory over a fierce enemy. This verse begins a passage that describes just that. At some future time, our Commander in Chief of this universe, Jesus Christ, will ride to earth on a white horse leading the armies of heaven into one final engagement.
“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. . . . The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean” (Revelation 19:11,14, NKJV).
The outcome of the fight? Verse 15 leaves no doubt: “Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.” This heavenly army will crush the enemy. Should you be afraid? It depends on whose army you’re in. If you haven’t enlisted yet, why don’t you join the Lord’s army today? There is a place for you!
