Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. (Galatians 6:17)
Worthwhile endeavors in life usually cost you something. Few people know this truth better than soldiers. Cemeteries hold the bodies of many American soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Thousands of other soldiers wear the scars of war for life. Spiritual warfare is no different.
The apostle Paul tells us that service for his Commander, Jesus Christ, resulted in scars. His scars, rather than being a disgrace, bear testimony to the character of his service — dedicated, courageous, and selfless. Some people mistakenly equate successful Christian living with avoidance of pain, suffering scars, or even an early death.
The Bible reports otherwise. Experience supports this as well. Know, however, that this verse is not referring to the pain, suffering, and scars we get from our own wrongdoing. Sin has its own set of consequences.
In the daily battles of life, serving God will bring resistance from the enemy. Wounds will come, but so will victories. When this happens, you will join the ranks of multiplied millions who have suffered for Jesus’ sake.
