“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
Have you ever found yourself stressed out, running in circles, and getting zero help from those around you?
Martha was ticked. Her preparations for the meal were not going well. She was reaching the panic stage. So much needed to be done. Her sister, Mary, was just sitting there with their house-guest, seemingly hanging on to every word Jesus spoke. Finally, Martha had reached her limit.
She blurted out to Jesus, “Tell my sister to help me!”
What happened next must have surprised Martha. Jesus calmly looked at Martha and told her that Mary, not Martha, had made the better choice. Meal preparations could be done anytime. Sitting at Jesus’ feet could not.
The story ends before we find out Martha’s response. I choose to believe Martha felt convicted and calmed at the same time. Mary had made the better choice. Instead of getting all stressed out by your circumstances, make a better choice.
Give Jesus your undivided attention.
