Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Numbers 13:30)
Perspective is critical in life. How you view situations can make all the difference. Do you normally see the glass half empty or half full? Some people tend to be negative, usually seeing the glass half empty. Others choose to see the glass half full.
This verse takes us back to an AAR (After Action Review) from one of the first-ever recorded reconnaissance missions. The twelve spies couldn’t reach consensus. Ten of them told Moses and the people that taking the land of Canaan was simply not doable. The inhabitants were too numerous and too powerful.
Joshua and Caleb saw it differently. Caleb voiced confidence by saying “we can certainly do it.” What made Joshua and Caleb different? Verse 8 of the next chapter provides the answer: “If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.”
If the Lord gives you a mission to accomplish, simply trust Him and get to work!
