But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory. (2 Samuel 23:12)
God has created every person on the planet for a purpose. Warriors are certainly no exception. And like all other people, warriors need to know that their lives have made a positive difference. This desire to contribute to those around them is God-given. Many Viet Nam veterans have never received affirmation for their sacrifices during that war. They don’t know that their efforts made any difference. Hopefully our present and future warriors will not have to repeat this experience.
Notice the verse from 2 Samuel. The Bible records that Shammah, one of David’s mighty men, fought valiantly and helped the Israelites achieve a great victory. Shammah’s heroic efforts made an enormous difference.
If you are a veteran, please know that your contributions have helped our nation. Your contributions have been valuable. Thank you. If you are the spouse, child, parent or friend of a military person, thanks for supporting your veteran, and thanks also for your efforts as well. You, too, have made a positive difference!
