According to Army doctrine, the conduct of defensive operations requires taking the initiative. Defending is not passive. Commanders of units who successfully defend against enemy attack take the initiative in carrying out the fundamentals of defense: preparation, disruption, concentration and flexibility. Merely sitting back and waiting for the enemy to attack invites disaster.
During the Vietnam conflict, the enemy would occasionally overrun U. S. firebases. They did this with inferior weapons and equipment. How? Poor defensive positions, improperly strung wire, and shortages of early warning devices all contributed to weaknesses that the enemy exploited.
On the spiritual battlefield, the devil wages continuous offensive operations against your soul. His aim is to kill, steal, and destroy. Can you successfully defend? Yes! But don’t sit back and wait for the enemy to attack. Seize the initiative! Make the Most High your dwelling. No disaster will come near your tent!
